Alabama Power to Test Automated Downstream Notification System on Nov. 10
Alabama Power is scheduled to conduct its annual test of the Automated Downstream Notification System on Tuesday, Nov 10, at approximately 9 a.m. CT. The test is an important part of the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and emergency preparedness for communities near its hydroelectric facilities.
Residents living immediately downstream of Bouldin, Harris, Jordan, Lay and Mitchell dams may receive a phone call, text message, or email during the test. The notification system is designed to provide timely alerts to residents in the unlikely event of an emergency.
The test message will clearly state that it is only a test, that there is no emergency and that no action is required.
“Safety is our top priority,” said Dax Bumpers, General Manager of Southern Company Hydro. “We conduct these tests to ensure our alert systems, including sirens, are ready to function effectively in the unlikely event of an emergency. We are committed to taking these precautionary measures seriously.”
